Process Optimization of Steel Rolling Production Line

Faced with increasingly fierce market competition and downstream customers’ higher requirements for steel quality, the company has made breakthrough progress in the areas of controlling iron oxide scale on wire rod surface, improving decarburization layer and improving appearance quality through a number of technological innovations and equipment upgrades. It has responded to the high-end demands of downstream customers with better products and services, and further consolidated its leading position in the field of special steel.

1. Precision controlled cooling process: the thickness of the oxide scale is significantly reduced

The thickness of the scale directly affects the efficiency of the pickling and shot blasting processes of downstream customers. In the traditional wire rod production process, the excessive thickness or dense structure of the scale will lead to prolonged pickling time, increased costs, and even affect the surface quality of the final product. In response to the stringent requirements of downstream customers for pickling and shot blasting processes, the technical team of Xinggang successfully controlled the surface scale thickness of key steel grades such as SWRCH35K, 10B21, ML40Cr, and SCM435 at the advanced level of the industry by optimizing the cooling control process parameters and adjusting the cooling rate and temperature curve after rolling. The new process makes the scale structure looser and the adhesion lower. Customers reported that the pickling efficiency has increased by more than 30%. The scale structure formed by the new process is looser and the adhesion is significantly reduced, which shortens the pickling time of customers by 20%-30%, and the shot blasting cleaning efficiency is increased by more than 15%, which greatly reduces production costs and shortens the processing cycle. At present, this technology has been stably applied in many production lines of Xinggang, and has been gradually extended to other steel grades, providing more competitive raw material solutions for industries such as automotive parts and high-end fasteners.

2. Zero decarburization breakthrough: Anti-decarburization coating equipment is put into production and effective

Surface decarburization is a key factor affecting the performance of high-end materials such as bearing steel and spring steel. In traditional production processes, wire rods are prone to react with oxygen during heating, resulting in the loss of surface carbon elements, which in turn reduces the hardness, wear resistance and fatigue life of the material. High-end materials such as bearing steel and spring steel are particularly sensitive to the depth of the surface decarburization layer, and traditional processes are difficult to meet the “zero defect” requirements. In order to solve this problem, Xinggang invested in the introduction of anti-decarburization coating equipment. By spraying a high-temperature resistant and anti-oxidation coating on the surface of the wire rod, oxygen is effectively isolated, so that the decarburization layer depth of the secondary fire material can reach the “zero decarburization” level at best. Verified by customers, this technology effectively avoids the problem of fatigue performance degradation caused by decarburization, and is particularly suitable for the manufacturing of high-precision bearings and high-end springs.

3. Customized packaging solution: protecting the “zero scratch” quality of wire rod

With the expansion of Xinggang’s products in high-end fields such as new energy vehicles and precision instrument components, customers have increasingly stringent requirements for the surface finish and appearance quality of wire rods. Scratches on the surface of wire rods will affect subsequent processing. To this end, Xinggang has set higher standards for the appearance protection of wire rods. The company has set up a special team to conduct full-process dimensional measurements for wire rods of different production lines and specifications, and jointly developed customized solutions with packaging suppliers: using packaging bags made of high-pressure and wear-resistant materials, and customized design of four different sizes of packaging bags to ensure that the packaging bags of wire rods of various specifications can fit the wire rods, effectively protect the surface of the wire rods, and ensure that there are no scratches on the surface of the wire rods during transportation; at the same time, by completing the protection upgrade of the overhead crane hoist of the production line, by adding special protective rubber sleeves, the problem of internal scratches during the coil hoisting process has been completely solved. This seemingly subtle but crucial improvement has increased the internal quality pass rate of the product to 99.9%, further consolidating Xinggang’s quality advantage in the field of high-end special steel, and has been highly praised by customers.
