technology & solution
LMM GROUP is equipped with advanced equipment and enjoys excellent technology for mechanical and electro-plating processing. It has complete testing devices, perfect production management and strict environmental protection measures. LMM has become a major supplier of cemented carbide roll rings in the world’s steel industry with the efforts of the company’s team.
Tungsten carbide powder + cobalt powder + nickel powder + chromium powder are mixed, pressed and sintered to form, and then the composite carbon steel material is embedded in the inner hole of the cemented carbide rings. The carbon steel material and the cemented carbide rings are tightly combined through a special process.
significantly reduce the procurement costs of steel companies:
Replacing the non-working layer part of the high-priced carbide roll ring with low-priced composite carbon steel material reduces the cost of the steel mill while ensuring various indicators such as product stress and joint surface strength.
reduce the accident rate of cemented carbide roll rings:
Because the materials of the taper sleeve and the carbide roll ring are different, the heat generated by the box during the operation of the equipment is conducted to the roll ring through the taper sleeve. If the cooling is not good, it is very easy to cause transverse cracks. The new material uses a flexible composite layer. The thermal conductivity of the material is higher than that of cemented carbide, which can effectively dissipate the heat transmitted to the roll ring. As a transition layer, it can reduce the probability of transverse cracks of the roll ring.
The dynamic balancing problem of traditional carbide roll rings cannot be fundamentally solved because they are powder metallurgy products, and the dynamic balancing weight fluctuates greatly. Poor dynamic balance will have a great impact on the use and life of the roll box. The composite roll ring can reduce the dynamic balancing weight to less than one gram, and at the same time the weight will be reduced accordingly. This will greatly reduce the load of the roll box, effectively reduce the loss and damage of the roll box, and improve the comprehensive service life of the roll box.
Here are some key points about tungsten carbide rolls:
Composition: Tungsten carbide rolls are made from tungsten carbide (WC) particles cemented together with a metallic binder, typically cobalt. This composition gives them exceptional hardness and wear resistance.
Applications: They are primarily used in rolling mills for shaping and forming metal products. This includes applications in the production of steel, aluminum, and other metal alloys.
Durability: Tungsten carbide rolls have a longer service life compared to traditional steel rolls due to their high hardness and resistance to wear.
Performance: They provide better surface finishes on rolled products and can operate at higher speeds, improving productivity.
Heat Resistance: They can withstand higher temperatures, making them suitable for high-temperature rolling processes.
Types of Rolling:
Hot Rolling: Used for shaping metal at high temperatures.
Cold Rolling: Used for shaping metal at room temperature, providing better surface finish and dimensional accuracy.

Production Process and Production Facilities
Raw material:
The main raw material is tungsten carbide powder. LMM funded 20,000,000.00 USD, and imported the carbide powder manufacture equipment in 2010.
Tungsten carbide powder is produced by APT, and burning in electric heating rotary calcination furnace, and then come into being blue tungsten oxide, then through burning and producing the tungsten powder.
Screened & Classified:
The tungsten powder is screened by a vibrating screen. And then through the air classification equipment, it is classified into different granularity.
Ball Milling & Mixxing:
Tungsten powder in a certain proportion, adding carbon black and other additives after ball milling and mixing.
High Quality TC Powder:
The tungsten powder with good carbon black is added to the intermediate frequency carbonization furnace. In the end, the WC the powder was milled by the ball milling machine, and the high quality tungsten carbide powder was produced.
Forming Powder:
The WC powder, cobalt powder, and other rare elements are formulated in good proportion. Join the ball mill through the 24 hours of wet grinding, and mixed into the forming powder, then put them into the spray drying tower.
Press & Burning:
Compression molding will be prepared and put the powder into the mold, press molding with a hydraulic press; Put the roughcast into the furnace and burn it into the roll roughcast.
Finish Machine:
Through flat grinding, internal hole grinding, and cylindrical grinding comes into being the product of the ring. Also according to different rolling, different rolling mills, processed into wire grooved roll rings, wire thread roll rings, bar combination rolls, and roll steel.

FAQs about tungsten carbide rolls
Tungsten carbide rolls can be used in the intermediate finishing sections of rolling mills.
LMM can produce tungsten carbide rolls with outer diameters of up to 550 millimeters.
To convert from cast iron or steel rolls to tungsten carbide rolls, LMM carbide rolls product speciailists will partner with rolling mills to revise roll cooling, machining, and handling capabilities. Most rolling mills can easily adapt from cast iron to tungsten carbide.
LMM tungsten carbide rolls have a longer lifespan of up to 20 times longer than that of cast iron rolls due to their higher wear resistance. This results in reduced stoppage time for the rolling mill along with higher productivity and lower operational costs
The minimum rolling speed tungsten carbide rolls can be used at is one meter-per-second (1 m/s).
Proper cooling is crucial to ensure optimal performance of carbide rolls. The minimum recommended pressure is 4-to-6 bar and 250-to-300 liters per minute per passform.
