A square bloom CCM is used to cast large square-section blooms that are rolled into billets, bars, special steels, and structural products. It is commonly chosen for high carbon and alloy-grade production where internal soundness is critical.
A rectangular bloom CCM supports broader product routing and rolling schedules. Rectangular sections can improve rolling efficiency for certain downstream profiles and can be optimized for specific mill layouts.
It stabilizes tundish temperature during long casting sequences, reducing superheat fluctuation, improving casting stability, and supporting more consistent bloom quality—especially for alloy and bearing steels.
Protective casting reduces re-oxidation and inclusion pickup from tundish to mold, improving cleanliness and reducing defects like inclusions, slivers, and internal impurity-related cracking.
It is an adaptive cooling strategy that adjusts water flow and cooling intensity based on speed, grade, and temperature, reducing crack risk while ensuring safe shell growth.
