What is a mold assembly?
Definition and use
The mold assembly is a key component used in the metal continuous casting process. Its main function is to transform molten metal into solid ingots with specific shapes and sizes. The mold assembly has a wide range of applications in the metal smelting and manufacturing industries, especially in the production of steel and non-ferrous metals.

Components
A complete crystallizer assembly usually includes the following main parts:
Crystallizer body: This is the main component for the solidification of molten metal, usually made of copper or copper alloy, with good thermal conductivity.
Crystallizer vibration device: Through periodic up and down vibration, the friction between the ingot and the crystallizer wall is reduced to avoid surface defects of the ingot.
Cooling system: Through water cooling or oil cooling, the heat of the molten metal in the crystallizer is quickly taken away to promote its solidification.
Driving rod: It is used to guide the formation of the initial ingot and continuously pull the ingot out of the crystallizer during the casting process.
Support structure and fixture: Ensure the stability and accurate position of the crystallizer assembly during use.
Working Principle
During the continuous casting process, the molten metal enters the crystallizer from the ladle through the tundish. The cooling system in the crystallizer quickly removes the heat of the molten metal, causing it to gradually solidify and form in the crystallizer. The function of the vibration device is to reduce the friction between the billet and the wall of the crystallizer through vibration, preventing cracks or other defects on the billet surface. As the metal continues to cool and solidify, the dummy rod gradually pulls the solidified billet out of the crystallizer.
Selection and maintenance
When choosing a suitable crystallizer assembly, you need to consider the following factors:
Material: The crystallizer body is usually made of copper or copper alloy with high thermal conductivity to ensure efficient heat conduction and rapid cooling.
Size and shape: Select the appropriate size and shape of the crystallizer according to production needs to ensure that the cast slab meets production specifications.
Cooling system efficiency: An efficient cooling system can significantly improve production efficiency and ensure billet quality.
Vibration frequency and amplitude: Appropriate vibration frequency and amplitude can help reduce billet defects and improve casting quality.
