Definition
The hot delivery roller for continuous casting and rolling is a key equipment in the continuous casting and rolling production line during the steel production process.
Continuous casting is the process of continuously casting liquid steel into solid ingots through equipment such as crystallizers, while continuous rolling is the process of directly rolling ingots to obtain finished steel products.
The hot delivery roller connects the two links of continuous casting and continuous rolling, and is used to transport the high-temperature ingots just produced by the continuous casting machine, and transport them quickly and efficiently to the rolling mill for subsequent rolling.
How it works
The hot delivery roller mainly relies on a series of rollers arranged at a specific pitch to work.
These rollers are usually driven by motors, and the speed is adjusted by transmission devices such as reducers. After the continuous casting machine produces the ingot, the ingot is placed on the roller, and the roller drives the ingot forward by its own rotation and the friction between the ingot and the ingot.
In order to ensure that the ingot can be transported smoothly, the speed and torque of the roller need to be reasonably controlled according to factors such as the size, weight and production rhythm of the ingot.
Structural composition
Fate
The roller is the most basic component of the hot delivery roller. It is generally made of heat-resistant steel because it needs to withstand the heat radiation and conduction heat of the high-temperature billet.
For example, in some high-temperature alloy steel continuous casting and rolling production lines, the billet temperature may be as high as 1000℃ or more, and rollers made of ordinary steel are easily damaged in such a high temperature environment.
The diameter and length of the roller are determined according to the size of the billet and the conveying capacity of the production line. In addition, the surface roughness of the roller also has certain requirements. Only when the roughness is appropriate can it ensure sufficient friction on the billet without scratching the billet surface.
Drivetrain
The transmission system includes components such as motors, reducers, and couplings.
The motor is the power source, providing power for the rotation of the rollers. The reducer is used to convert the high-speed rotation of the motor into the appropriate speed required by the rollers, because the motor speed is usually high, while the rollers need a lower speed to smoothly transport the ingots.
The coupling is used to connect the drive shafts of the motor, reducer, and rollers to ensure that power can be effectively transmitted between the various components. There are two driving modes for the transmission system: centralized drive and individual drive. Centralized drive is a motor that drives a group of rollers through a transmission device; individual drive is that each roller has its own independent motor drive. This method can more flexibly control the speed of each roller, but the equipment cost is relatively high.
Support structure
The support structure is mainly used to support rollers and transmission systems. It is usually a steel structure and needs to have sufficient strength and rigidity to ensure that it will not deform when bearing the weight of the ingot.
The support structure is generally assembled by welding or bolting, and in order to facilitate installation and maintenance, ancillary facilities such as maintenance platforms and ladders are also provided on the support structure.

Features
Hot delivery function
Its most important function is to achieve hot delivery of the ingot. After continuous casting, the temperature of the ingot is high. The hot delivery roller can quickly transport the high-temperature ingot to the rolling mill to reduce the heat loss of the ingot during transportation.
This is very important for the subsequent rolling process, because the rolling force required for high-temperature ingots during rolling is relatively small, and it is conducive to improving the internal structure and performance of steel, thereby improving product quality.
Buffering and speed regulation function
Since the production rhythm of the continuous casting machine and the rolling mill may not be completely consistent, the hot delivery roller can play a buffering role.
For example, when the rolling mill has a short-term failure or needs to replace the rolling roller, the hot delivery roller can appropriately slow down the conveying speed of the ingot to avoid the accumulation of the ingot on the roller.
At the same time, the hot delivery roller can adjust the conveying speed of the ingot according to the actual needs of production, so that the ingot can enter the rolling mill at the right time, ensuring the efficient and stable operation of the continuous casting and rolling production line.
